Pick a designer by the files, not the mood board.
Picking a web designer is not picking a font. It is picking who holds the keys after the invoice. If you cannot answer “whose hosting, whose domain, whose files,” you do not have a designer. You have a rental with extra steps.
This is how we answer those questions. If another shop answers them better, hire them. We are not going to talk you out of a person you trust who has three live sites with phones that still work.

Price is a clue, not the whole story
- $0–$40/month builders: you are the designer. Fine if you like the editor. Wix vs hiring.
- $49/month hosted website: hours and a phone. Not a custom layout. /hosting/.
- $500–$2,500 once: standard marketing site lane.
- $8,000+: agency, brand system, sometimes ads. Right if you already have demand.
- $150 for “SEO + logo + 10 pages + ranking”: walk away.
Anyone who hides that in a footnote is not doing you a favor. We put it on /sale/ in plain type.
