Setup
Pointing a domain is a click. The site is the files.
A domain is a name you rent at a registrar. Pointing it means telling the world which machine answers when someone types that name. You still click. We tell you what to click. DNS is not a slogan and it is not instant. The name is a lease. If those arrows still aim at parking, the world sees parking. If they aim at GoDaddy Website Builder, the world sees the builder. If you want files on Bluehost or on our server, you change nameservers or A records to that target. Wrong arrows are why “I bought it yesterday and nothing happens” is usually not a broken internet. Read after you buy a domain if you are still on the parking page.
Hosting setup and DNS help are in the standard job. The registrar login is still yours. We will not ask you to email the password in a form and “handle everything.” Phone (813) 328-6079 if you want a person in your ear. Most standard jobs finish in under 72 hours when the brief is clear. DNS can still take a chunk of a day after we are done. Do not point nameservers at an empty host “to get it over with.” You will stare at an error and think the name is broken.
Nameservers vs A records
Two common ways to point. Nameservers hand the whole DNS job to the host. You log into GoDaddy, Namecheap, Google Domains leftover, Cloudflare, whoever sold you the name. You replace the nameserver lines with the two or four hostnames the host gave you. Save. Wait. The host then owns A records, mail records, the lot — unless you set mail somewhere else first. This is the usual path when Bluehost or similar is going to serve the site.
| Method | What you change | When we use it |
|---|---|---|
| Nameservers | Two or more ns records at the registrar | The host gave you nameservers (Bluehost often does) |
| A record | The @ / root A record to an IP | You keep mail at the registrar and only move the website |
| CNAME for www | www points at the apex or the host’s target | So both yourname.com and www work |
| Leave MX alone | Mail records stay where mail already works | You@yourname.com is already live |
- If you have email on the domain, say so before anyone touches DNS. Wrong nameservers break mail. Email on your domain.
- www is a CNAME or a second A record. We will say which. Test both www and the apex on a phone.
- Propagation can be minutes or a day. Refreshing fifty times does not speed it up. Phones on cellular may see the new site while office Wi-Fi still shows the old one. That is cache, not a haunting.
- HTTPS needs a certificate after the name points. The lock comes after DNS, not before. The lock icon. Do not buy a $200 “security seal” gif. Turn SSL on at the host that actually answers.
- Do not buy the registrar’s builder just to make parking ads die. A builder is a second product. Leaving it later is a rebuild. Keep the name. Skip the kiosk if you want files you can move. Leaving GoDaddy’s builder.
- Do not email the registrar password to a stranger, including us, in a form. You click. We read the screen with you. Ownership of the name is the whole point of buying it.
A records (and often a CNAME for www) keep DNS at the registrar and aim only the website at an IP. Useful when email already works at the registrar and you do not want to touch MX. We will tell you which records. You still paste them. We sit on the phone if you want. (813) 328-6079, labeled Cheap Fast Websites.
Order of operations
- Pay and brief. We build the files. The clock on the site is the brief, not the DNS click. After you pay · what to send.
- Preview on a temporary URL if we have one. Do not point the real name at an empty box.
- You click at the registrar. We send the exact records. Nameservers, or A plus www.
- Wait. Test the form on a phone, on cellular. Lock, tap-to-call, hours. Then cancel the old host if you had one. Do not go dark.
If you do not have a domain yet, buy the name first. A parked page is not a website. Turn parking / “for sale” off if there is a toggle. Check auto-renew and the card. After you buy a domain · Parked domain, what now. If the last designer vanished, you still need the registrar login. We can point a new site. We will not break into a host we do not control. Designer disappeared. If you cannot log into the registrar, the name may not be yours. The account email is the test. A site on an expired name is a wish.
What the page has to be once it answers
Files. A layout, your photos, a phone a thumb can tap, a form that arrives if you want one, hours, basic SEO as a title, meta description, and Open Graph. Not a ranking prize. A brand-new or long-parked domain will not “show up everywhere” on day one. We will not say it will. We will not promise the site is “live worldwide” in five minutes. We will not sell ranking because DNS started answering. Not a cart, app, or members area at this price.
