Rebuild
Replace the old site. Keep the name. Do not go dark.
Replacing a website is keep the name, build new files, point DNS last, cancel the old host after a phone test. People do it backwards: they cancel first, then sit on a parked page for a week. That is how shops go dark. Customers think you closed. You did not close. You unplugged the door.
“It looks old” is usually three complaints stacked: the layout is from 2012, the phone number is wrong, and nobody trusts the page on a phone. Only one of those is a font problem. The other two lose jobs even if you pick a prettier template. Read my website looks old before you buy a rebuild for boredom. Paste the URL into the free check first. If contact, title, or HTTPS fail, that is the work — not a slogan. A rebuild here is the same product as a new site. We do not paint over a broken form. Custom layout from your facts, your photos, a contact path, basic SEO (title, meta, Open Graph), hosting setup, help pointing the domain, one round of changes. Most finish in under 72 hours when the brief is clear. We do not clone the old theme pixel for pixel.
Save these before anyone logs out
The domain. Log into the registrar with the email you can open. Check auto-renew and the card. If the freelancer bought the name on their card, fix that before you design. The name is the only object customers already typed. Everything else is replaceable. See who owns the files.
- The domain login at the registrar. Not the old host login — the name.
- A copy of the copy you still want. Screenshot the page if you have to. Do not assume the old host will stay up the week you leave.
- Photos. Download them. Phone photos of new work are better than a stretched hero. Phone photos.
- The phone number and hours as they should be now, not as they were in 2019. Wrong hours are a closed sign. Fix the hours.
- Whether email lives on that domain. DNS mistakes break mail. Pointing a domain · email on your domain.
- The old URL list. If people bookmarked /menu or /book, say so. We are not a ranking-migration agency. We can put those paths on the new site when you tell us they matter. We will not promise Google will keep whatever rank you think you had.
If the last designer vanished, you still need the registrar. We can point a new site. We will not break into a host we do not control. Designer disappeared. If the old site is a builder — Wix, Squarespace, GoDaddy Website Builder — leaving is a rebuild anyway. Price that in. Leave Wix · Leave Squarespace · Leave GoDaddy’s builder. Keep the old plan paid until the new form works on a phone. Then cancel. Not the morning you pay.
The sequence, in order
| Order | Do this | Old site |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Paste the old URL into the free check. Know what fails. | Still live. Leave it |
| 2 | Pay on /sale/. Brief the old URL plus photos. The brief. | Still live |
| 3 | We draft. You send one list. Preview if we have a temporary URL. | Still live. DNS not switched |
| 4 | Point DNS. You still click. Test the form on a phone, on cellular. | Dies when DNS catches up |
| 5 | Then cancel Wix / Squarespace / GoDaddy builder / the old host. Not before. | Cancel after four yeses: lock, tap-to-call, form, real photos |
Do not point nameservers at an empty host. Do not let the old domain expire in the week you move. Do not announce a “new site coming soon” on a parking page. Build, then point. DNS can take a chunk of a day. Phones on cellular may see the new site while the office Wi-Fi still shows the old one. That is cache. Test both www and the apex. The lock icon follows DNS. HTTPS is part of hosting setup, not a $200 badge. See what happens after you pay.
What to throw out — and what a rebuild includes
Stock skylines. “Welcome to our website.” A blog you never wrote. A chat widget nobody staffs. Fake “#1 in town” badges. Beveled buttons you are keeping out of nostalgia. If the form is the only thing that is dead, sometimes a patch is enough. Broken contact form. When a rebuild is the cheaper move: you cannot change a phone number without paying a “small extra”; the stack is a builder you do not want to rent; the page is a parked domain with someone else’s ads; you need it to look like a company this week.
$49/month if a hosted website is honestly enough. hosting included on $49/month. Most standard jobs under 72 hours when the brief is clear. The old site can stay up until DNS moves. That is the point. Phone (813) 328-6079. Forms notify tampasbestdj@gmail.com. We do not promise #1 Google because the new page is prettier. Title, meta, Open Graph. That is the SEO in the job. A rebuild is not a ranking package. Not a cart, app, or members portal at this price — those get a quote. If the old WordPress is infected, say so. A brochure rebuild on a clean host is often cheaper than another year of “we should update PHP.” We are not a malware retainer.
Hire: /hire/. Live work: /work/ — Dodo, Pets Helping Pets, Tampa’s Best DJ, LazerMerch, petcalendar.pet, US Helping the World. This shop’s own sites, not fake client revenue. Labeled samples: /examples/. Worldwide, 24/7. Bill is in Tampa / Zephyrhills. No public storefront. Keep the old door open until the new one works on a phone. Then throw the key to the old host away.
Free next step: score the old URL. Do not cancel the old host first.
